Just 20 years ago, Carnes Selectas Ali was operating out of a garage in Mexico. But the small-budget meat distributor had big ambitions. In the early 1990s, its founder decided to start a business importing beef to Mexico. Cargill provided support to help grow this new business by being the first company outside of Mexico to sell imported beef products to Carnes Selectas Ali.

Over the years, Carnes Selectas Ali has developed business skills and market expertise in animal protein, which have helped them become one of the five biggest marketers of beef, pork, chicken, lamb and fish in Mexico, focused on distributors, popular food markets, butcher shops, small restaurants and taquerias. Cargill’s meat solutions business also supported Carnes Selectas Ali in the development of High Choice Angus (Angus Choice Gold), its premium-brand product that successfully entered a new market that was saturated with competing brands. Today, this product line is served at the most prestigious hotels and restaurants in Mexico.

In 2012, Carnes Selectas Ali consolidated its operations, investing nearly US $6 million in a new processing plant and achieving sales of over US $5 million per month. The partnership is a true success story. Thanks to a deep understanding of customer strategy and reliable, trustworthy service, Cargill’s initial support for Carnes Selectas Ali has evolved into a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship.
